Effect of deformities below the ankle on TKA.

چکیده
What foot and ankle deformities should clinicians be aware of before total knee arthroplasty (TKA)? Deformities of concern in the coronal plane include those in which the hindfoot is in valgus or varus. These deformities include the pes planus (ie, flat foot) and cavovarus foot. Prior to TKA, decisions should be made on whether to proceed with correction of the hindfoot deformity or the knee or to use bracing preand postoperatively.

Anterior Ankle Arthrodesis with Molded Plate: Technique and Outcomes
Background: There is still controversy regarding the best technique for ankle arthrodesis to acheive stable rigid fixation along with reconstructing a functional plantigrade foot. Moreover, existing techniques have complictions related to stability, soft tissue covering, fusion rate, and exposure. Methods: With the anterior approach exactly on the tibialis anterior sheath, the joint was expose...
متن کاملCorrection of Tibial Malunion in a Patient with Ipsilateral Total Knee and Ankle Prostheses Using External Ring Fixation and the Ilizarov Method Case Report
Bone, joint, and soft‐tissue deformities of the lower limb have been shown to influence the integrity of ipsilateral joints.[1‐3] For example, increased varus/valgus deformity of an arthritic ankle has been associated with increased arthritis in the ipsilateral knee.[1] One study showed that in patients with varus knee and valgus hindfoot deformities, correction of knee alignment with total kne...
متن کاملComparison of Clinical, Functional, and Radiological Outcomes of Total Knee Arthroplasty Using Conventional and Patient-Specific Instrumentation
Background: Recently, patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) systems have been developed in order to increase theaccuracy of component positioning during total knee arthroplasty (TKA); however, the findings of previous studies arecontroversial in this regard. In the current randomized clinical study, the outcomes of computer tomography (CT)-basedPS (patient specific)-guided TK...
متن کاملImproved femoral component rotation in advanced genu valgum deformity using computer-assisted measured resection total knee arthroplasty
BACKGROUND Accurate femoral rotational alignment is of vital importance for successful total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The value of computer-assisted surgery TKA (CAS-TKA) in increasing the accuracy of femoral rotational alignment remains controversial. We hypothesize that outcomes are related to the severity of preoperative varus and valgus deformity and that CAS-TKA may be beneficial under cer...
متن کاملPreoperative radiographic valgus alignment predicts the extent of lateral soft tissue release and need for constraint in valgus total knee arthroplasty
Background In total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for valgus knees, the decision to use a constrained implant is often made intraoperatively depending on the extent of soft tissue releases performed and residual soft tissue imbalance. The purpose of this study is to determine if preoperative radiographic criteria of valgus knees can predict the extent of soft tissue releases required and the level of...
